Mexico Vacation at the right time
How expensive your vacation is has a lot to do with when you go. Usually during the Winter, prices raise for many resorts. On the other hand, during the Summer prices drop tremendously for vacations in Mexico.
Our recommendation is to visit Mexico around September or October. Most tourist establishments are in need of business at this time so many vacation deals can be found. The down side is that temperature can be very high during these months. If it’s too hot for ya, then try again in May or June just after the tourist season is over. You want to travel cheaply, but make sure you also travel comfortably!
You can pretty much pick how much you want to spend on your accommodations for your Mexico Vacation. It will cost you anywhere from $10-$500 a night, depending on if you want to stay at a hostel or a all inclusive resort. We like a happy medium.
Staying in the highest class resort is amazing, but pricey. Conversely, sleeping with roaches isn’t much fun. It’s not too hard to find a nice hotel for less than $50 a night in most parts of Mexico. Location has a lot to do with what you pick! It’s no good to have a great deal and be miles away from town. You don’t need a pool if you are staying near the beach, why soak in a pool when you could be floating in the ocean!
Public Transportation
Getting around is pretty easy in most parts of Mexico. You don’t need to rent a car if you are going to travel on a tight budget. Most people take buses for 5 pesos. You can even get charter bus tickets to almost any destination for a day trip.
Eat Locally
It’s expensive to eat in Mexico at the same places you do in the States on your vacation. Prices can at times be even higher than they are Stateside!
A great place to find good deals on food is the corner food stands and street food. You can get a taco or two or three for under a buck without too much effort. We recommend this as your cheapest way to eat in Mexico. Check the cleanliness of the food stand, and the popularity. If it is clean and popular, then odds are the food is fresh and cheap. You and your stomach are in business!
Also explore off the beaten path. You didn’t come on a Mexico vacation to eat a hamburger! You came for some authentic flavor! Neighborhood restaurants often have some of the best deals for a cheap yet authentic meal for less than $5.
Get your souvenirs and grocery from markets
Local markets sell vegetables and goodies at great prices. Go here if you are staying in Mexico for a while to stock up on the necessities. Also fill your souvenir bag with local arts and crafts. Guaranteed to be unique, and cost a fraction of what they do in other areas. You can save a ton of money doing this instead of going to the local Walmart or other mega grocery store.
