Reaching the 50-year milestone, as I have, things can change dramatically and quite fast. In fact, most women can be caught completely off guard as to what is really happening. Maybe a few pounds appear on the scale, their mood changes a little, or your face flushing or sweating a bit more than usual or not being able to sleep. Weight loss is usually the first worry, but I can assure you that weight management is critical at this juncture.
At first glance it appears that menopause is a big contributing factor, but,it’s not the only reason. If you make no changes whatsoever, age by itself can cause your weight to go up and make weight management a nightmare.
One big thing that
Here are five
- Eat Fewer Calories. If you are not going to up your exercise, then you need to lower your caloric intake. It would also help to increase your consumption of fiber, and switch to de- caffeinated coffee or tea. Limiting your alcohol consumption will help also.
- Eat less fat. Try to limit yourself to no more than 30-35 grams of fat per day.
- Reduce the amount of sugar you eat. Sugar isn’t essential and is really nothing more than empty calories. It’s not easy to get rid of sugar so the alternative is to make better choices. Eating more fresh fruit as you choice of snack helps to curb your desire for more sweets.
- Avoid alcohol. Alcohol contains sugar…about 7 grams, giving it twice as much sugar as carbohydrates or proteins! You are better off with a candy bar. That way you will stop at one. You are more likely to drink to excess if you are having a really emotional issue.
- Opt for more exercise. Regular exercise increases your levels of endorphins that will make you feel good, just like chocolate does. Only without the calories.
Approaching or bypassing the big 50 milestone doesn’t mean that you may as well throw in the towel. That simply is not true, It is a matter of learning what changes you need to make and then just do it. These simple little modifications in your lifestyle will reap you big rewards at the scale.
