Beginner Workout Tips


Wanting to lose weight? Sure, everyone wants to shed those unwanted pounds, but do you know how to begin working out? Exercise is essential to any weight loss plan, but it is important to start out slow and build up your work outs as you go.


Begin with Goals

Starting a new work out regiment doesn’t seem like a daunting task, until you get in the thick of it. The best tip is to sit down and write out goals. Giving yourself a goal to work toward will keep your motivation going and inspire you to meet your goals. Write out a list of your goals: how much weight you would like to lose, how much exercise you would like to do each week, etc. Even set a goal of doing some sporting event, like entering a 5K, as motivation to work toward. Goal setting can keep your work outs on track.


Stretching

You should always include a stretch regimen before you begin any exercise program. Stretching warms the muscles up for working out and can help prevent injuries. Everyone should stretch before and after any exercise, to keep the muscles limber and lessen the amount of soreness in the muscles the following day. Whatever exercise you plan, it is advisable to include stretches for any and all muscles that will be used.


Working Out

Before you hit the pavement or the gym, think about the type of work out you would like to do, but more importantly, what type of work out would you enjoy? If you enjoy your work out, you are more likely to stick with it, so choose something that interests you. You may have to try several different types of exercise regimens before you find one that you want to continue. One of the best work outs to being with is walking. Once you have chosen a type of exercise you enjoy, start out slow. If you decide to walk your neighborhood, set a goal of walking a half a mile for the first week or two, and then increase the distance from there. Every two weeks, increase the distance by a quarter of a mile, or whatever distance you desire. If you’re doing another type of work out, either increase the duration or the intensity of the workout-but remember to go slowly when doing this! One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to push themselves further than they are able to go. If it’s the first time out, don’t try running three miles. Start small and work up. This will ensure you will stick to your program and lose weight.
